Bathroom Bliss

We live in an age of some of the best minds. Past and present geniuses are sparked from spectrums on opposite ends of a education-colour bar. On one side, there's the hard-working university scholars who serve years slaving away in their tertiary prison earning Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D's in vast and various fields of their study, sacrificing inhuman hours of their personal life, while slowly making caffeine makers wealthy. Then there's the drop-outs who fail miserably, unable to grasp the simplist of concepts but later achieving a status and title much higher than that of a scholar, becoming masters of their failed field - no sacrifice needed, but plenty of fun involved. The drop-out's successes are always, if not most of the time, due to a bright idea. An idea so bright, their light bulbs serve as lighthouses for other ideas. Most people are bound to have an idea or two on a daily basis but a select few have the ability of transforming their ideas into a reality, while others wait for someone else to think of it. While clearly, such bright ideas are convincingly the easiest way to fame and fortune (and honorary doctrates), the ultimate question remains, how are these ideas sparked? In my years of experience (all almost nineteen of them), I've had pretty damn good ideas, visions, and dreams. Now obviously, the dreams come from, well ... dreams. The visions come from day-dreams. The ideas however, they come from a different place: my bathroom. Why is it that lots of people have epiphanies while washing their hair, brushing their teeth, unloading a load, or scrubing their back? Is the bathroom the new think-tank of modern society? At first I thought maybe, who knows, it's just me. But after having a conversation with a few friends, I've gathered that they have little revelations in their place of quite and cleanliness too. The bathroom is the new Tomb for Thinkers! You're probably wondering if this is another gesture to help speed up my application to my local asylum. Sadly no, not yet, but I'll keep you all posted on that. I find great ideas are spawned all over the place, not only in the bathroom (albeit, it is a favourite) but also on the road while driving, gazing off into the greeny green sugar-cane, or even while lost in the eyes of a significant other. Some might argue which is the better route, the torture of education, or the luck of a passing thought. I believe both have pros and cons. It's up the individual to decide which is more worthwhile. Spending a decade on an education is one thing - it gives you a ticket. Waiting around for something big to happen ... That all lies in the hands of the Universe and how it sees fit to pass around brilliant thoughts. More often than not, the decade is shorter.
